Christian McCaffrey is one of the NFL’s most versatile running backs, and he’s closing in on a huge franchise record for the Panthers.
The Stanford product and 2017 eighth-overall pick is a mere 10 yards from tying DeAngelo Williams’ franchise record for most yards from scrimmage in a single season. Williams set the mark with a total of 1,636 all-purpose yards in 2008.
McCaffrey has rushed for 926 yards this season, so he also has a chance to become just the fifth Panther to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards in a season. The last Carolina player to do so was Williams, who accomplished the feat in 2009. Williams is the only Carolina running back to do it twice (2008, 2009).
The Panthers are on a five-game losing streak and will face the Saints on Monday at 8:15 p.m. ET. New Orleans has the top ranked rushing defense in the NFL, so McCaffrey may be hard-pressed to find yards running the ball.
The Ravens managed to hold McCaffrey to 56 yards from scrimmage earlier this season, which was his lowest total this year.
