The Carolina Panthers need to re-sign these six players for next season.
General manager Marty Hurney is already making moves to construct the Carolina Panthers for the future. Veteran linebacker Thomas Davis has been notified he will not be offered a new contract in anticipation of the team getting younger on both sides of the football.
Center Ryan Kalil retired and the future of defensive end Julius Peppers remains up in the air. A future Hall of Fame selection, and North Carolina native, it is likely he either returns or retires. Either way, Hurney is tasked with revamping a roster full of turnover while preparing for an unknown quarterback situation as Cam Newton continues to battle shoulder soreness.
There are currently 31 free agents of different varieties on the roster, including unrestricted, restricted and exclusive restricted – each with a slightly different twist. Essentially, unrestricted means they can opt to sign with anyone, restricted indicates the Panthers can match a received offer or receive some type of compensation and exclusive gives Carolina the rights, if they choose to make an offer.
Following are three players on each side of the football who Hurney should work to re-sign for the 2019 season.
